Fantagraphics has announced that it will publish a series of hardcover graphic novels by French cartoonist Jacques Tardi.  The series will kick off with two titles released simultaneously this August:  West Coast blues, based on the novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette, and You Are Here, written by Barbarella creator Jean-Claude Forest.

In the spring of 2010, Fantagraphics will release It Was the War of the Trenches, selected as the Best Graphic Novel of All Time by the readers of a Dutch comic magazine (see “Tardi’s Trench War Named Best Graphic Novel”).  Excerpts were published by RAW and Drawn and Quarterly magazines in the 80s and 90s.

Other Tardi works have been published in North America, but none are currently in print.

Director Luc Besson is working on film adaptations of Tardi’s nine Adele Blanc-Sec graphic novels (see “Luc Besson to Adapt Tardi Graphic Novels”).
