Star Trek DVD and Blu-ray discs are planned for release May 12th, just after the release of the new Star Trek film on the 8th (see “Best in Shows, Part 1”).  Two Blu-ray film collections are planned.  Star Trek:  Original Motion Picture Collection includes the first six Star Trek films, digitally remastered in high definition (Wrath of Khan has been fully restored); a bonus disc of Star Trek:  The Captains’ Summit, a 70-minute roundtable discussion between William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, and Jonathan Frakes, led by Whoopi Goldberg; plus 14 hours of special features, including 2-1/2 hours of new material.  MSRP is $104.99. 

 

Star Trek:  Motion Picture Trilogy includes Star Trek II, III, and IV, and will be released in DVD in addition to Blu-ray.  The DVD set will retail for $29.99, and the BD set for $48.99. 

 

Best-of DVDs for the original Star Trek series and for Next Generation will also be released on May 12th.  Best of Star Trek:  The Original Series will include digitally remastered versions of The Trouble with Tribbles, Amok Time, City on the Edge of Forever (currently the subject of a lawsuit by Harlan Ellison, see “Harlan Ellison Sues Paramount”), and Balance of Terror.  Best of Star Trek:  Next Generation will include Best of Both Worlds parts 1 and 2, Yesterday’s Enterprise, and The Measure of a Man.
