Vanguard Productions has a number of new art book releases slated for this coming summer including Roger Hane, Art Times, Tragedy, a 300-page biography of one of the great illustrators of the second half of the 20th Century, and Joe Kubert: How to Draw From Life, an illustrated manual created by one of very best comic book artists.

 

Robert C. Hunsicker, who was a friend of Roger Hane, details the life, work, and tragic demise of the artist whose surrealism-tinged designs graced the covers of numerous paperbacks including Carlos Castaneda’s The Teachings of Don Juan and A Separate Reality as well as the Macmillan editions of C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia books.  Hane was tragically murdered during a mugging in Central Park in 1974 at the age of 36. 

 

Design guru Milton Glaser has provided the foreword for this biography of the man he called “the best illustrator in America.” Vanguard is releasing two hardcover editions of Roger Hane, Art Times, Tragedy in July.  A deluxe slip-cased edition with a 16-page bonus portfolio has a cover price of $74.95, while the regular hardcover is $49.95.  A paperback edition is due in September.

 

Not only is Joe Kubert one of the most respected comic book artists of his generation, he is a pioneer in teaching comic book illustration through the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, New Jersey, and his instructional manuals Superheroes (1999) and Joe Kubert’s Comic Book Studio (2002).  Joe Kubert: How to Draw From Life is designed for more advanced art students, professionals and enthusiasts.  The 128-page manual will be available in August in two hardcover editions.  A Deluxe Slip-cased Edition ($59.95) features a 16-page portfolio signed by the artist, while the regular hardcover edition has a cover price of $34.95.
