Mary Glendening, the Director of Narberth Community Library in Narberth, PA, read the recent article about the criticism lodged against the upcoming television network by Discovery and Hasbro (see "Org Bashes Hasbro TV") and had this to say:

While I'm not surprised that the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood is against a new Hasbro/Discovery Kids TV venture I think this channel has potential to be more than just infomercials for Hasbro's toys.  One could argue that most children's programming, even Sesame Street and other educational fare, is really nothing more than a vehicle to sell more products whether it be toys, diapers or clothing.

Transformers Animated
and Star Wars: The Clone Wars are both great shows with interesting and involving plot lines that are more than just a long commercial for the toys that line the shelves based on these properties.  I love that I can watch Transformers Animated with my son and not have to worry about the content being too scary or adult for him.  I have more of a problem with companies pushing toys and kids meals for properties that are clearly aimed at teen and adult audiences than I do with Hasbro and Discovery developing TV shows based on age-appropriate toylines that already exist.
