Kotobukiya has unveiled new images of its 13-inch cold cast porcelain statue of Venom, the first release in its lineup of Marvel Villains. The black-costumed symbiote, who was first introduced to the Marvel Universe during the Secret Wars saga in the mid 1980s, stands on a specially designed circular base that lights up with interior LEDs that highlight the figure’s heavy musculature and Venom’s signature toothy grin.  Sculpted by Junnosuke Abe, the limited, numbered Venom Light Up Fine Art Statue has an MSRP of $229.00 and will be available in the U.S. in February.

Since its introduction in Secret Wars the alien parasite known as Venom has always been one of Marvel’s most terrifying and popular villains.  The fact that Gary Ross has been named as the writer and director of a potential Venom feature film (see “Venom Movie Gets Director”) demonstrates the considerable potential of this property.
