Marvel has revealed the creative team for its May release of Avengers #1, the title that will launch the publishers “Heroic Age” initiative.  Artist John Romita, Jr. will join longtime Avengers scribe Brian Michael Bendis on Avengers #1.  The artwork that Marvel sent accompanying the announcement of Romita, Jr. as the artist indicates that one member of the new Avengers team will be Captain America, though it won’t be the recently returned Steve Rogers, rather it appears that it will be his gun-toting sidekick Bucky Barnes (with blue eyes, go figure) donning his distinctive Captain America costume.

In its April solicitations Marvel indicated that issues #16, #36, and #35 would mark the end of the Dark Avengers, Mighty Avengers, and Avengers titles respectively.  The new Avengers #1 marks the dawn of the “Heroic Age,” ushering in a brighter, more hopeful era for the Marvel Universe (see “Marvel Announces the Heroic Age”), and it just happens to coincide with the release of the Iron Man 2 movie.  Look for more members of the new Avengers team to be announced over the coming weeks.  What are the chances that Old Shellhead might be among them?
