The next direct-to-DVD DC original animated film in the Warner Premiere series will be Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, which will be based on the second Superman/Batman storyline.  The animated feature will be released on September 28th in three different formats, a single-disc bare bones edition, a double-disc Collector’s DVD version, and on Blu-ray.

Information about the new Superman/Batman direct-to-DVD movie was first revealed on the back of the Batman: Under the Red Hood Blu-ray, which is due out on July 27th.  Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is the sequel to the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies direct-to-DVD movie that was released in 2009 (see “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies”), and it appears that it will follow the second Superman/Batman arc created by Jeph Loeb.  The cover art for the new Superman/Batman: Apocalypse release includes Darkseid as well as the “Evil Supergirl” created by Michael Turner—Darkseid and the “Evil Supergirl” were featured prominently in Jeph Loeb’s second story arc for Superman/Batman that also reintroduced Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El.

The Superman/Batman: Public Enemies DVD cover also reveals that the disc will contain an animated short featuring Green Arrow.
