Breck Eisner, who directed the superior remake of George A. Romero’s The Crazies that was just issued on DVD, wants to make a movie based on Blood of the Innocent, the 1985 weekly comic book from Warp Graphics that was written by Rickey Shanklin and Mark Wheatley and illustrated by Wheatley and Marc Hempel.  Set in Victorian London Blood of the Innocent pits Jack the Ripper against Dracula.  Bill Marsilii, who recently sold his Lightspeed script to Jerry Bruckheimer and also penned a draft for the remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, is adapting Blood of the Innocent.

Exactly when Eisner will direct Blood of the Innocent is unknown at this point.  The interest in vampire movies created by the Twilight films, could push a studio to provide a quick green light, but Eisner will most likely polish his genre film remake cred first by directing a new version of Escape From New York.  According to Firstshowing.net, Eisner also recently renewed his option on Flash Gordon, a project that will take lots of prep, and which is currently slated for 2012.  Reportedly Eisner would like to make Blood of the Innocent before he embarks the Flash Gordon project.
