Superman: Earth One HC, which sold out quickly in the direct market (see “Graphic Novels Up in October”), was the #1 graphic novel in the adult fiction category in bookstores in November, according to data compiled by Nielsen BookScan. Behind it, Scott Pilgrim, which we’ve started calling “the little graphic novel series that could” held tough at #2 and beyond, with four out of the top ten titles and all six volumes in the top 15.

The Walking Dead, the other big media tie-in graphic novel series, moved up in November following the blockbuster premiere of the AMC series on Halloween (see “8.1 Million Watch ‘The Walking Dead’”), with Volume 1 now at #4, three out of the top ten titles, and four out of the top 20. The most recent volume, Too Far Gone, debuted at #8 despite having a street date less than a week before the end of the period.
Legions of Whedon fans propelled Dark Horse’s Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale to #6 in its first month on the chart.
Six manga titles charted this month. Viz’s domination of the bestseller lists is slipping, with a tie between it and longtime rival Tokyopop at two titles each in the top 20. Hetalia is showing staying power; this is the third month in the top 20 for the first volume of Tokyopop’s viral hit. Del Rey and Yen each had one manga title in the top 20.
