Diamond Comic Distributors has sold a total of over 32,000 copies of Vampirella #1, Dynamite Comics publisher Nick Barrucci told ICv2. The first issue sold around 29,000 copies in North America in the first week after release (see “Top 300 Comics—November 2010”) and picked up the rest in other markets and in the weeks since. That’s a big step up from the Harris version, which had been selling around 5,000 copies in its last iteration. The first issue has now sold out of all versions except the Tim Sale cover reorder version.

Sales on issue #2 dropped off more than for a normal series (perhaps reflecting the promotional activity on #1), but initial orders on #4 are coming in higher than issue #3, according to Barrucci.

The revival, targeting fans of the Archie Goodwin version of the character and the David Bogart reprise (see “Vampirella Past and Present”) is also driving sales of the first volume of Vampirella Archives and Art of Vampirella, according to Barrucci. Retailer promotions are planned around the release of the next volume of Vampirella Archives the first week of February.
