It’s official. Sony announced today that the title of Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot is The Amazing Spider-Man. The film, which will be shot entirely in 3-D, will debut in theaters on July 3, 2012. 

 

Given the fact that the updated Spider-Man origin story in the new movie is closely tied to The Ultimate Spider-Man comic book, which basically rebooted the comic book series, many observers thought that the studio would go with The Ultimate Spider-Man for its title, but Sony decided to go “old school” with the original 1960s Marvel title, which of course remains the title of the flagship Spider-Man comic.

 

Sony released a photo (by Peter Tangen) of star Andrew Garfield in full Spider-Man drag. Other members of the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man include Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Dennis Leary as Captain Stacy.
