Emphasizing the fact that it retains the rights to the classic Disney and Disney Afternoon characters, even after losing the Pixar license (see “Marvel Gets Pixar”), BOOM! Studios announced the May launch of a new comic book series based on DuckTales, the animated cartoon, which was in turn based on the Uncle Scrooge adventure comics of Carl Barks.
DuckTales, which aired from 1987-1990, was the most successful part of the syndicated Disney Afternoon package. The cartoon series, which featured Scrooge, Donald, and the three nephews, closely followed the template created by Carl Barks in his Uncle Scrooge comics, with some of the DuckTales episodes such as “The Unbreakable Bin” coming directly from the comics (“The Unsafe Safe”).

DuckTales #1 will ship in May with A & B covers from Leonel Castellani and James Silvani respectively, as well as with a 1-10 incentive cover.
It should be noted that Warren Spector, who has an extensive background as a designer of both paper games (Top Secret/S.I. and the Marvel Super Heroes at TSR), and video games (System Shock, Deux Ex, and Epic Mickey), is writing the new DuckTales series with Miquel Pujol providing the art.
