Shane Black, the scriptwriter of Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, The Last Boy Scout, and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, is in final negotiations with Marvel Studios to direct the Iron Man 3 movie.  Black has a great relationship with Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. Black directed the star in cult hit movie Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, a role that help re-launch Downey Jr.’s career in 2005.  Reports surfaced last week that Marvel had talked with a group of potential directors of which Black was considered the most likely choice for IM3 (see “Marvel Talking to Shane Black”).

 

Deadline is reporting that it is not clear whether Black’s deal with Marvel involves writing Iron Man 3 as well as directing. Black is currently writing an adaptation of Doc Savage (see “Doc Savage Movie”) and is also attached to a live-action American adaptation of Death Note (see “Death Note Gets a Director”).
