Even though the final outcome of DC’s bi-weekly Brightest Day saga remains in doubt, solicitation patterns being what they are, DC Comics has announced the follow-up to the highly successful Brightest Day event.  Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search is a three-part miniseries written by Jonathan Vankin (Vertigo Pop! Tokyo) and illustrated by Marco Castiello (Green Arrow) that will debut in June.

DC released a murky plot outline for the new series on its The Source blog: “Following the exciting conclusion to Brightest Day, the new protector of Earth has been chosen—but one reluctant hero makes a return to try and convince Batman, Superman, and the rest of the DC Universe’s heroes that this may not be a good thing at all.”

Who will be Earth’s new protector, and how do the events in The Search relate to the fates of the resurrected heroes of Brightest Day like Aquaman and Deadman?  It looks like fans will have to wait at least until the release of the final issue of Brightest Day on April 20th for answers.
