Marvel Comics announced today that its Eisner Award-winning adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz novels by Eric Shanower and Skottie Young will continue in September with the debut of Dorothy & The Wizard in Oz #1, the first issue in an 8-issue miniseries adaptation of the fourth novel in Baum’s series.
Baum’s Dorothy & The Wizard in Oz was published in 1908 and used the 1906 San Francisco earthquake to transport Dorothy and her cat Eureka to subterranean realms where they find themselves trapped and are eventually rescued by the Wizard. More than any of the other Oz books Dorothy & The Wizard in Oz puts its heroine in a constant stream of dangerous situations in a succession of magical realms. It should make for an interesting adaptation.
The all-ages Dorothy & The Wizard in Oz #1, which is written by Eric Shanower and features pencils and a cover by Skottie Young, will debut in September with a $3.99 cover price. Marvel is planning variant covers to issue #1 by Eric Shanower and Nick Bradshaw.
