Warner Bros. and producer Christopher Nolan’s decision to tap Zack Snyder to direct the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, meant that either the studio had to put off the 300 sequel that Snyder had been developing with Frank Miller for several years or it would be necessary to find another director. The studio has evidently chosen the latter course and the selection process has basically been narrowed to two potential helmers, Noam Murro the director of the Sarah Jessica Parker comedy Smart People as well as numerous award-winning commercials and Jaume Collett-Serra, who helmed the very effective Liam Neeson thriller Unknown (see “Unknown Leads Genre Parade”).
According to Deadline, Zack Snyder and his wife are still producing the film, which is now known as 300: Battle of Artemsia. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are interested in getting the 300 sequel on the docket in large part because the original 2007 300 movie was produced for $65 million and earned a whopping $456 million, which made it one of the most profitable releases of the year.
