Brian Wood is writing a digital comic prequel that will be included as an extra downloadable premium for those who pre-order the Lord of the Rings: War in the North video game from specific retailers.  Wood certainly has demonstrated his facility with ancient warfare in his Northlanders comic.  The LOTR: War in the North prequel comics will be illustrated by Simon Coleby (Judge Dredd) and produced by DC Entertainment. 

 

Those who pre-order the LOTR: War in the North, which is due out in late 2012, from Toys ‘R’ Us will get access to download parts one and two of the War in the North Digital Comic, while those who pre-order from Amazon will receive early access to part two of the digital comic.

 

Nothing has been announced yet, but it seems likely that the digital comics will be available at some point via DC’s ComiXology app.

 

According to IGN, the Lord of the Rings: War in the North video game has a narrative set in the North in the lands of Eriador and Rhovanion that runs chronologically parallel to the events in the South when the fellowship was able beat back Sauron’s forces and destroy the ring.
