Andy Kubert, who penciled the popular Flashpoint series for DC Comics, will take over the art chores on the Grant Morrison-written Action Comics for issue #5 (January) and #6 (February).  Rags Morales, who began penciling the Action Comics with the reboot of the series in September, will resume drawing the book with issue #7 in March.

The September debut issue of the new Action Comics sold 182,748 copies in North America according to ICv2 (see “Batman #1 Tops September Sales”).  Morrison’s Action Comics chronicles the adventures of a young Superman, whose wardrobe choices (jeans and a t-shirt) raised a few eyebrows when they were first announced (see “Supes Shows Off New Duds in Action Comics #1”).

Kubert expressed his excitement at getting a stint on Action Comics to DC’s The Source: “When Editor Matt Idelson asked if I would be interested and/or able to fit into my schedule two upcoming issues of Action Comics with Grant, I couldn’t say no.  I don’t know of any other artist that would have.  Drawing the latest incarnation of Superman and working with one of the best writers on the planet made it a very easy decision for me.  And in this story, I get to do some VERY iconic stuff!  I gotta admit, I’m a little nervous.”
