A jury in Macomb, County Michigan has found former comic book retailer Michael George guilty of murder in the shooting death of his wife that occurred at his comic shop. George had previously been found guilty in his first trial in 2008, but a judge overturned that conviction citing prosecutorial misconduct and the appearance of new evidence (see “Witness Grilled in Retailer Murder Case”).
According to The Detroit Free Press, the jury, which was composed of six men and six women deliberated about a total of 14 hours (over 3 days) before arriving at a guilty verdict. The jury found George guilty of first degree murder, insurance fraud, and a felony firearm violation.
George was convicted in a crime that occurred over 20 years ago on what was basically circumstantial evidence. One witness whose name had appeared in police notes that were misplaced and didn’t come to light until this year was located, but another potential witness who appeared in the same notes died in 2001 (see “Defense Witness Located in Michael George Trial”).
