Here’s some good news for Star Trek collectors.  Hasbro, the nation’s second largest toymaker, has inked a deal with CBS Consumer Products to produce and distribute worldwide a range of products based on J.J. Abrams’ as yet untitled Star Trek sequel, which is slated to debut on May 17th, 2013.

Hasbro’s Star Trek product line will include select new figures, KRE-O building sets and a full line of role-playing toys for kids.

Filming has already begun on Abrams’ second Star Trek film (see “Star Trek, Lone Ranger Star Production”).  Abrams’ first Star Trek film, which debuted in May of 2009, successfully rebooted the franchise as it earned over $385 million at the worldwide box office.  Because the Star Trek movie franchise was in such disarray before Abrams got things back on track, the 2009 film was, by contemporary standards, underserved with tie-in merchandise, a situation that this Hasbro agreement will rectify somewhat for the sequel.
