An international political movement comes to the traditionally apolitical world of Archie Comics when Riverdale gets Occupied in an upcoming storyline.  Although Archie Comics has not confirmed the issue in which the storyline will appear, it is going to be beyond May, because solicitation info is out through that month.  Archie Comics did release this variant cover by Jill Thompson today.
The Archie events today, including this announcement, portray the situation in which the company finds itself.  Through newsjacking editorial events it is attracting attention and sales by injecting Archie into the topics of the day (see “Gay Marriage Cover”).  But at the same time, it is getting the wrong kind of attention over an unusually bitter and public boardroom fight with its roots in third generation family company dynamics (see “Judge Levels TRO on Silberkleit”), as in this Associated Press story that also went up this week.
