The real life theft of Action Comics #1, the comic that featured the first appearance of Superman, from the collection of movie star Nicholas Cage forms the basis for Action No. 1, a screenplay by Reno 911 creators Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon that Lionsgate has optioned for the big screen.  The still unsolved crime occurred in 2000.  Cage collected insurance on the comic, which was discovered in a storage locker in 2011 and later sold at auction for $2.16 million (see "'Action Comics' #1 Brings $2.16 Million").

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script for Action No. 1 focuses on a group of nerds who band together to “liberate” the highest-graded copy of the landmark 1938 comic book.
