IDW Publishing has released details of its new comic book series featuring James O’Barr’s iconic anti-hero The Crow.  Written by John Shirley, who was one of the screenwriters of the original Crow movie, with art by Kevin Colden (Fishtown) The Crow #1 ($3.99) is slated to ship to retail in July.  The new comic book series is set in Japan where the spirit of vengeance known as The Crow returns in the guise of foreign exchange student Jamie Osterberg who hunts down those responsible for the death of the love of his life.

A new Crow movie directed by F. Javier Guttierez with a screenplay written by Jesse Wigutow is currently in development (see "'The Crow' Remake Back on Track"), but it is a rebooting of the original Crow story as written by O’Barr.  IDW’s Crow comic, which was announced last year at San Diego (see "IDW Announces 'Crow' & 'Popeye' Comics"), takes The Crow "concept" to an entirely new setting in Japan, but the essence of the saga’s cycle of loss and revenge remains the same.
