Roger Slifer, who created the popular DC Comics character Lobo along with artist Keith Giffen in Omega Men #3 in June of 1983, is in critical condition after being hit by a car on Saturday while crossing the street in Santa Monica, California. Slifer was in the crosswalk when he was hit by the car, which fled the scene of the accident.
According to the Santa Monica Daily Press, Slifer, 57, was in the crosswalk at 5th and Colorado when he was hit. The impact of the car broke Slifer’s collar bone, several ribs, and his shoulder. In addition doctors had to remove a portion of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain. He is currently in critical condition, but doctors feel that they have been able to stabilize his condition somewhat.
Slifer worked at Marvel in the 1970s and moved to DC in 1981, where he was the first sales manager for the direct market and also worked on numerous projects as a writer. After he left DC, Slifer went into to animation and has worked as a producer and writer on numerous series including Transformers, G.I. Joe Extreme, and Jem and the Holograms.
