Comic-Con News:  Andrews McMeel, which is known for its collections of contemporary comic strips, is launching AMP!, a new line of comics for kids with Lincoln Pierce’s Big Nate Makes the Grade in August. Pierce’s Big Nate is the saga of the trials and tribulations of Nate Wright, a rebellious and energetic sixth grader.  Over 4.5 million copies of collections of Pierce’s Big Nate comic strip are already in print.

The second wave of AMP! releases is slated for October with kid-oriented collections of Bill Amend’s FoxTrot and Mark Tatulli’s Lio along with a full color collection of Big Nate Sunday pages.

The children’s category represents the fastest-growing segment of the graphic novel market over the past two years, so it certainly makes sense for Andrews McMeel to tailor some of its comic strip collections for this growing market segment.
