The three film and TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series has once again been dropped, this time by Warner Bros., according to Variety. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment were to produce (along with King), with Howard to direct and Russell Crowe to star. A script by Akiva Goldsman had recently been delivered, and Warners considered the expensive package for a time (see "Russell Crowe to Replace Javier Bardem in 'Dark Tower'?"). But the cost and uncertain prospects for the film led Warners to pull back.
This is the second studio to back out of the film; Universal dropped the project last year (see "Universal Abandons 'Dark Tower'"). Imagine can continue to shop the film, but it’s running out of studios.
