Here is a trailer for the time-traveling science fiction fantasy film Cloud Atlas directed by Tom Tykwer (Run, Lola Run) and Lana and Andy Wachowski and based on David Mitchell’s award-winning 2004 novel.  Cloud Atlas features an impressive cast including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant, and Susan Sarandon.  Produced in Germany with a budget north of $140 million, Cloud Atlas, which opens on October 26th, is one of the major box office question marks of the fall season.

Cloud Atlas has an innovative narrative format with six intertwined stories that could prove difficult for audience, though there is a narrative pay-off for all the jumping around between the stories.  The Wachowski’s directed the 19th Century story and the two set in a post-apocalyptic future, while Tykwer helmed the stories set in the 1930s, the 1970s, and the present day.  Cloud Atlas, which carries an "R" rating, has a running time of 164 minutes (16 minutes shy of three hours), and marks a return by the Wachowski’s to the kind of high-concept, mind-bending, material that they managed to fashion into box office gold with their Matrix Trilogy.
