Tokyopop, the #1 U.S. publisher of graphic novels, has acquired the rights to the two-volume Brigadoon manga series by Nozomi Watase and plans to release the first volume this August.  Advance word about the acquisition of Brigadoon along with other anime-related manga titles including FLCL, Saber Marionette J, NieA_7, and Brain Powered leaked out a month ago (see 'More Manga From Tokyopop'), though the size of the series and the timing of the first release was not available at that time.

In May Tokyopop is releasing the first DVD volume in the 26-episode Brigadoon anime series produced by anime powerhouse Sunrise Animation (see 'Tokyopop Acquires Marmalade Boy & Brigadoon').  The charming story of the Brigadoon manga/anime owes more to Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky than it does to the Scottish legend of a village that appears once every hundred years -- and, as a bonus for the majority of anime fans, the story contains a good deal of fighting robot action between an alien mecha bent on destroying the orphan girl, who discovers a floating city above her village, and another robot, who becomes the girl's protector.
