Comic retailers interviewed by ICv2 about 2013 felt there was still plenty of room for growth in sales of both comics and graphic novels, according to a report in Internal Correspondence #81.  Consumers are expanding their range of content (for example from one of the Big Two to both), Marvel NOW! is still in the early stages of its impact, Before Watchmen and Marvel NOW! collections will hit this year, and TV and movies are positive drivers (there are 12 comic-based movies in 2012!).

There are also some threats to comics and graphic novel sales in 2013, including the over-use of marketing gimmicks such as variant covers, and the nation’s last remaining national book chain with uncertain prospects.

But the biggest driver of sales may be public attitudes toward comics and comic book shops, which continue to move in more positive directions.
