Wizards of the Coast has released details for Scoundrels of Skullport, the first expansion for its Origins Award Winning boardgame, Lords of the Waterdeep, which will release on August 20th.
Announced last year, Scoundrels of Skullport (see "'Lords of Waterdeep: Scoundrels of Skullport Expansion'") adds extensive new content for the boardgame, including two complete expansion modules: the dungeon of Undermountain and the subterranean criminal haven of Skullport. Designed by Rodney Thompson, Peter Lee, and Chris Dupuis, both locations include new play options (new Lords, Buildings, Intrigue, and Quest cards) and have unique characteristics including the new faction, the Gray Hands, which allows a sixth player to join the game.
The Undermountain module is set in a vast, multileveled dungeon beneath Mount Waterdeep. The labyrinthine maze once served the crazed wizard Halaster as a site for magical experiments. The rumored wealth entices adventurers to brave the monsters and mysteries beneath the city. Both risks and rewards are greater if players undertake quests that require more gold and more adventurers.
The Skullport module is set in the heart of Undermountain, below the streets of Waterdeep, a harborage of criminals and black-market dealers. The setting introduces the new Corruption resource, although, unlike Adventurers and Gold, having it at the end of the game negates Victory Points. However, the Buildings, Quests, and Intrigue cards that produce Corruption offer bigger rewards, so players must balance their greed, because the negative point value goes up the more Corruption is amassed.
The box includes 3 game boards, 1 player mat (for the Gray Hands), 37 wooden pieces (1 gray score marker, 11 Agents -6 gray, 1 for each other player color, 25 Corruption tokens), 116 cards (6 Lord of Waterdeep cards, 50 Intrigue cards, 60 Quest cards), 24 Building tiles, 9 Building control markers (gray), â—¦16 Adventurer Caravan tokens, 1 100 VP Token (gray), and a rulebook.
Scoundrels of Skullport requires the original Lords of Waterdeep base game to play, and has an MSRP $39.99. Lords of Waterdeep was recently awarded Best Board Game at the 2013 Origins Awards (see "Origins Awards Winners").
