Samurai Jack, which ran on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004, is getting an all-new comic book series from IDW Publishing. The first issue of this ongoing monthly releases in October and will pick up where the TV show left off.
Written by Jim Zub (Skullkickers) with art by Andy Suriano, who was character designer on the cartoon series, Samurai Jack #1 kicks off a five-issue story arc called "Rope of Eons." Fans of the show can expect the same type of action, adventure, and humor, with Jack journeying back to his time from a strange dimension in the future and engaging in battle with the tyrannical demon wizard, Aku.
Show creator Genndy Tartakovsky, who last year was tapped to direct a computer-animated 3D Popeye film (see "Sony Hires 'Samurai Jack' Creator for 'Popeye' Feature"), will provide variant covers for the first story arc.
