Here are six IDW Publishing Comic-Con announcements that we hadn’t previously covered.
IDW Publishing will publish new work in the world of Winsor McCay’s Little Nemo in Slumberland, written by Eric Shanower (best known for his adaptations of the L. Frank Baum Oz novels with Skottie Young for Marvel), with art by Gabriel Rodriguez (Locke and Key). Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland will debut next spring.
Alan Robert’s Crawl to Me, and IDW miniseries later collected into a graphic novel, will be adapted into a movie with Victor Garcia (Hellraiser: Revelations) directing. Interiors will be shot in Spain, where producer Rodar y Rodar is headquartered. In addition to Roberts and Rodar y Rodar, the film will be produced by Jeff Mazzola (Descent) and Chris White (My Super Psycho Sweet 16).
Library of American Comics and IDW Publishing will collect the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Cartoons in hardcover editions beginning in 2014. Ripley was the highest paid cartoonist in the world as a result of this daily cartoon, which brought oddities discovered by Ripley on his world travels to any home with a newspaper. The first volume will collect 1929 and 1930, the year’s when Ripley burst onto the popular stage.
IDW will publish and distribute comics from Darby Pop Publishing, a new company founded by writer/showrunner Jeff Kline (Transformers Prime, Dragon Tales). The first title will launch in December.
John Byrne’s Triple Helix will launch in October, introducing a new superhero team to the greater universe Byrne is creating, and battle invading Next Men villain Golgotha. The four covers of the miniseries combined to form a giant team image; Byrne is also doing variant character covers for each issue.
IDW will re-release Sam Kieth’s The Maxx as a comic series (The Maxx: Maxximized) with new painted covers by Kieth, and as a series of hardcover Maxx collections. IDW will also publish two more art books in The Worlds of Sam Kieth series.
