With Universal’s adaptation of BOOM! Studios’ 2 Guns doing well in theaters, it is no surprise that the studio has optioned another BOOM! title, Day Men, a vampire saga by Matt Gagnon, Michael Alan Neson, and Brian Stelfreeze that just debuted last month.  Day Men takes a relatively new tack on the vampire mythos by positing the existence of an ancient order of protectors and servants who keep vampire families undisturbed during their vulnerable daytime hours.  When two powerful vampire families go to war, the Day Men are right in the thick of it.

Deadline reports that Universal acquired the option on Day Men with “a preemptive seven-figure bid.”  The first issue of Day Men, which was released in mid-July, sold out its modest 12,000 copy print run, but it was the comic’s high concept premise, not its fan following (advance orders for the debut issue of Day Men put it at #247 on ICv2’s list of the "Top 300 Comics--July 2013") that got this property optioned.  Universal clearly hopes that it can develop Day Men into an Underworld or Blade-type franchise.
