Terry Rossio, who co-wrote this summer’s biggest box office flop, The Lone Ranger has been tapped by Columbia to write the script for a big screen adaptation of 1980s animated series Master of the Universe, which was based on a line of toys from Mattel.  The property was turned into a film once before back in 1987 in a movie that starred Dolph Lundgren and was set on Earth.  Universal’s remake will be set (like the cartoons) in the fantasy world of Eternia.
 
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon M. Chu, who was originally slated to direct the MOTU feature (see "'Masters of the Universe' Movie Gets a Director"), has left the project.  But getting a director should not necessarily be a big problem if the script is right.  Rossio is just the latest in a succession of scribes that includes Michael Finch, Alex Litvak, and Richard Wenk, who have toiled to create a screenplay for the film.
