MGM is in final negotiations with BermanBraun’s Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun to produce a new animated movie based on Charles Addams’ clan of eccentric, spooky characters, according to Variety.

Pamela Pettler, who scripted Corpse Bride, Monster House and 9, has been signed as screenwriter, and Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi will executive produce.

Originally produced as a group of 150 single panel cartoons, half of which appeared in The New Yorker between 1938 and 1988, The Addams Family really became famous through the ABC sitcom, which ran for two seasons between 1964 and 1966. There have been several other TV series, cartoons, two hit live-action movies directed by Barry Sonnenfeld in the early 1990s, video games and even a Broadway musical.

The article also confirmed that the Tim Burton-led project to develop a stop-motion The Addams Family movie (see "Tim Burton to Helm 'Addams Family' Movie") was "ditched" earlier this year by Chris Meledandri’s Illumination company.

Here’s hoping it’s a scream- and Happy Halloween!
