An original daily Peanuts comic drawn by the late Charles Schulz, dated October 21, 1966, sold for $26,450 in an auction conducted by Philip Weiss Auctions.
 
The strip (which would have appeared on a Friday, 47 years ago), features Linus, Peppermint Patty and Snoopy.  It was the most expensive piece of the nearly 700 lots up for bids in the January 18 multi-estate auction held in Lynbrook, New York.  The strip surpassed pre-sale estimates of $15,000-$20,000.
 
Given Schulz’s long career and prodigious productivity, the value of the original art he created over his lifetime is staggering.  Schulz drew over 18,000 strips for daily and Sunday publication spanning nearly 50 years.  If each piece of original art is worth the amount this piece of original art sold for, the value of his lifetime’s work is $468 million, a truly staggering number.  The Charles M. Schulz Museum owns nearly 7,000 of the 18,000 pieces of strip art.
