Dynamite has announced that the new Mark Waid Doctor Spektor: Master of the Occult series (see "Dynamite Reviving Gold Key Heroes in 2014") will debut on May 28th.
Multiple Eisner Award-winning Waid (Daredevil) will be joined by illustrator Neil Edwards (Fantastic Four) in revamping the classic supernatural detective. "It plays into all the non-superhero things that interest me--magic, performance, celebrity culture, and the pressures one feels under the public spotlight," said Waid. "Doctor Spektor is a pop-culture illusionist who's half Criss Angel, half Van Helsing--a demon hunter who has turned vampire-and-werewolf-and-zombie killing into a reality show."
Dynamite will have a wide variety of cover variants available for the first issue. The main cover will be by Christian Ward (Young Avengers) and a subscription-only variant cover will be provided by Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie), both of which will be fully returnable. Additional special retailer incentive covers will be done by Phil Hester (Green Arrow), Jae Lee (Batman / Superman), and Ken Haeser (The Living Corpse). A blank authentix cover will also be available. Roberto Castro (Lords of Mars) has also created a retailer exclusive variant cover, which can include store names on the front cover. Unique retailer exclusive variants are also available.
Doctor Spektor is the fourth release in Dynamite’s relaunch of Gold Key lines, which includes Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Magnus: Robot Fighter, and Solar: Man of the Atom.
