According to today's Hollywood Reporter, producers Don Murphy (From Hell, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen) and Tom DeSanto (X2: X-Men United) are teaming up to produce a live action film based on the venerable Hasbro toy and animation property the Transformers. A major animated hit in the 1980s, the Transformers have returned with a vengeance with an extremely popular new comic series from Dreamwave Productions (see 'Retro Influence Grows On Top Comic Sellers') and several new animated series, the most recent of which was just announced yesterday (see 'Hasbro Launches New Transformers'). According to the Reporter, DeSanto and Murphy already have a story concept in mind, which is good since creating a live action film about warring robots might appear at first glance to be a difficult proposition for the still to be named screenwriter or writers. The question on the minds of all good Transformers fans is, 'Who will play Optimus Prime?' May we suggest John Goodman?
