Just days after announcing a new Secret Wars mega-crossover (see "Marvel Launching New 'Secret Wars' Event in 2015"), Marvel Comics has released a teaser for what looks like a new Civil War event in the summer of 2015 that would bring back the intra-superhero conflict that was at the core of the popular 2006-2007 Civil War event. The teaser image that Marvel Comics has released for its 2015 Civil War event pays homage to the original Civil War crossover with an image that includes Captain America and Iron Man fighting over Spider-Man, who is dressed in his Iron Spider-Man suit.
The dynamics of this new teaser image recalls the divisions of the 2006-2007 Civil War event written by Mark Millar in which Captain America and Iron Man represented opposing factions of superheroes divided over the Superhero Registration Act.
So what does this new image with the Steve Rogers Captain America tussling with an Iron Man, who is definitely not attired in Tony Stark’s latest suit, over a Spider-Man who is dressed in togs from the last Civil War mean? It certainly appears that the new Civil War just might revisit some of the issues raised by the original 2006-2007 event, and that some element of time travel might be needed to account for the variations in the superheroes’ costumes.
