Marvel has released the Alex Ross variant cover for the first issue of its flagship Star Wars comic series, which premieres in January (see "Marvel Launching 3 'Star Wars' Comics").
The Joe Quesada wraparound variant was released in September (see "'Star Wars' #1 Wraparound Variant") and this new variant was released to Entertainment Weekly. The series will be written by Jason Aaron (Thor, Original Sin), with art by John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men). Star Wars #1 picks up immediately after the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, in the days following the destruction of the first Death Star as the characters from the original trilogy begin new adventures.
The photo-realistic Alex Ross design is homage to the original cover of Marvel’s Star Wars #1, by Howard Chaykin.
In addition to the first three Star Wars comic series, Marvel recently announced a new ongoing series following the early life of Kanan Jarrus, one of the protagonists on Star Wars Rebels, launching in April (see "Marvel Announces 'Star Wars--Kanan: The Last Padawan'").
