Tony Millionaire has teamed with animator Matt Danner to produce a demo clip, based on their Sock Monkey: Into the Deep Woods storybook, which they hope to turn into a full length movie.
Sock Monkey: Into the Deep Woods is tied to Millionaire’s Eisner and Harvey Award-winning Sock Monkey series (see “Multiple Winners At The Eisners,”DC Dominates Eisners,” and “Drawn & Quarterly, Fantagraphics Dominate Harvey Awards”).
This story sees sock monkey Uncle Gabby and his friends Mr. Crow and Inches venturing out into the Haunted Woods, because they believe their human, Ann-Louise, has been kidnapped by the monstrous Amarok. The 80-page, black and white hardcover has an MSRP of $16.99.
In the hybrid live-action/CGI clip, Uncle Gabby is seen in an old Victorian house, entranced by prismatic rainbows thrown through glass objects by the setting sun. He hops down the staircase to watch the sun set through the Great Glass Doorknob. According to Deadline, Danner penned the movie treatment first, and when Millionaire’s publisher Fantagraphics heard of the project, they agreed to produce it in book form first. Danner wrote the script and plans to direct the CG/live-action film, which is currently seeking studio financing.
Millionaire originally published the Sock Monkey stories as comics and graphic novels with Dark Horse, but moved the property to Fantagraphics in 2013, where the publisher collected his previous work in the full-color 344-page anthology The Sock Monkey Treasury: A Tony Millionaire’s Sock Monkey Collection.
