According to Variety, Revolution Studios has moved up the release of the Hellboy live action movie from Memorial Day Weekend, 2004 to the less competitive April 2nd weekend (see 'Hellboy Movie to Debut Memorial Day Weekend').

Hellboy, directed by Blade 2's Guillermo de Toro and starring Ron Perlman in the title role, was originally slated to open against Dreamwork's Shrek 2.  But Revolution decided to give the movie more leeway to cash in on the core sci-fi, horror, and fantasy fans, as well as broader audiences, by moving up the release date.

The April opening date may make a trend toward extending the 'Summer Blockbuster' season, which has started the first weekend in May in recent years.
