Variety is reporting that the decade-long struggle to reunite Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford in a new Indiana Jones film remains unresolved. In the summer of 2002 the Hollywood power troika had agreed on the basic outline for the fourth Indiana Jones film (see 'Fourth Indiana Jones Film to Bow in 2005'), which Frank Darabont was to fashion into a screenplay. According to Variety Lucas is not happy with the script that Darabont delivered, and a new writer will be brought in to work on the project. Originally the plan was to start filming in 2004 with the goal of a July 4, 2005 debut. Hiring a new writer, getting a suitable script, and then adjusting the schedules of the three principal players in the Indiana Jones saga makes a 2005 release highly unlikely, and puts the whole project in jeopardy.
