MGM Home Entertainment has announced a June 8 release date for the long-delayed RoboCop Trilogy, a DVD box set containing all three RoboCop movies including a new special edition unrated version of Paul Verhoeven's original RoboCop film.  The new version of the cult classic features an audio commentary by Verhoeven plus three featurettes, deleted scenes, storyboards and trailers.  Verhoeven's original RoboCop won the Oscar for Best Sound Effects Editing in 1988.  The box set will also include RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, though these are the same versions that are available individually already.  So far the only way to get the special edition of the original RoboCop film is to buy the Trilogy, which will have an MSRP of $39.95.

Frank Miller, who worked on the screenplays for RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, was also responsible for a number of RoboCop comic books, which are currently being reissued by Avatar.  Back when the first RoboCop film came out, Marvel was still doing comic book adaptations of movies that weren't based on its own properties.  Dark Horse Comics took over the franchise with the release of RoboCop 3 in 1993 and even pitted the cybernetic cop against the Terminator in a memorable mini-series.
