Variety is reporting that Miramax and Dimension Films have signed a multi-year agreement with the San Francisco-based animation company Wild Brain to produce CGI animated features. The first film to be produced under the agreement is Opus, starring the quip-happy penguin with the giant proboscis from Berkeley Breathed's Bloom County comic strip. Although it normally takes several years to make an animated feature, Wild Brain, according to Variety, is already quite far advanced on the Opus project, with a final script due next week and Breathed's character designs already in-house.
