Variety is reporting that Fox 2000 has hired helmer John Woo to produce and direct a live action film based on the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series and action figures created by toy giant Mattel.

Adam Rifkin, who is also adapting the comic book series Zoom's Academy with Jordan Roberts for Revolution Studios  (see 'Zoom's Academy Optioned') will pen the script for the new live action He-Man movie.

The Woo-helmed He-Man film won't be the property's first live action incarnation -- who can forget Dolph Lundgren's 1987 live action version with Frank Langella as Skeletor?
