Marvel wasn't the only company that had a good third quarter due to Spider-Man 2 (see 'Marvel Reports Q3 Results'); Sony also released financials for the third quarter on Thursday, and earnings were up at the company primarily due to improved results in its Pictures division, which offset weaker showings in electronics and videogames. Spider-Man 2 ended up with nearly $400 million in domestic box office, almost all in the third quarter; Resident Evil: Apocalypse was another contributing film (see 'Zombies Swarm Box Office'). The excellent sales and rental on the Hellboy DVD (see 'Hellboy Still Smoking') were also cited as positive factors in the division's results.
