IDW Publishing has acquired the license to produce comics based on Joss Whedon's Angel character.  The first title, a five-shot miniseries titled Angel:  The Curse, will launch in June.  It will be written by Jeff Marriotte, who has great familiarity with the character; he's written more Angel novels than any other writer, and co-wrote The Angels Casefiles, Vol. 1.  Art will be by David Messina.  Each issue of the miniseries will feature variant covers, by such artists as Jill Thompson, ChrisCross, Ben Templesmith, Tim Bradstreet, and Igor Kordey.

The story of the miniseries will pick up where the TV series ended, with direct input from Whedon.

This will be the first of many Angel books planned by IDW.

Dark Horse published Angel comics for several years, ending in 2002.
