Bright Red Rocket is announcing the coming release of The Naked Cosmos, a DVD written by, directed by and starring Love and Rockets co-creator Gilbert Hernandez, who also created the 20-page comic book that comes with every DVD.  The DVD features four bizarre, out-of-this-world episodes, all of which are hosted by Quintas, a character that is a fond homage to all those kids' show and horror movie hosts who have long since disappeared from the airwaves as the indie urban UHF stations have been taken over by the media conglomerates with their connections to the wretched minor networks.

Daniel Clowes, creator of Ghost World and Eightball, loved 'the eerie opening of each episode,' and called The Naked Cosmos 'a kids' show for crackpot adults,' while Tony Millionaire compared it to 'a really weird B-Movie you see late a night and you can't believe somebody even made that thing.'

In addition to writing and directing The Naked Cosmos, Gilbert Hernandez portrays the enigmatic Quintas and most of the other characters, while his wife Carol Kovinick takes on the chief female roles.  The 88-minute, all region, NTSC DVD features dolby sound and has an srp of $14.95.  The DVD should be listed in the upcoming catalogs of comic distributors including Cold Cut, Diamond, FM International, and Last Gasp.   Retailers who do well with Love & Rockets and other alternative titles might want to consider adding this DVD to their product mix -- it does feature a comic unavailable anywhere else and it's unlikely that comic shop retailers will face much in the way of mass-market competition on a title as esoteric and delightfully bizarre as The Naked Cosmos.
