Out of respect for the gravity of today's events, ICv2 is suspending its normal coverage except for the news we've been able to collect to date on the immediate effects on the industry. We'll update news on the immediate effects on the industry and on the safety of industry participants as we get it. If you have any news on the industry effects of these events, please contact news@icv2.com. We'll resume our normal publishing schedule Thursday morning.
Lower Manhattan Pop Culture Companies
ICv2 made numerous attempts throughout the day beginning before the World Trade Center towers collapsed to reach lower Manhattan pop culture companies, but we were unsuccessful. On the manufacturing side, The Topps Company has offices at 1 Whitehall Street, in close proximity to the attack. Downtown retailers include Forbidden Planet, Village Comics, St. Mark's, and Anime Crash, all at greater distance from ground zero.
Further north the news was better. We heard from Patti Jeres at DC, who said that employees who did manage to make it to work were trapped there, as it was difficult to leave Manhattan, at least in the first hours after the attacks. The entire staff at Midtown Comics is fine and none of them live in downtown Manhattan; however will be closed until the bridges and tunnels to Manhattan reopen. The staff at Jim Hanley's Universe is also fine, but the store, which is located in lower midtown, was closed and the staff was sent home.
Shipments
Diamond Comic Distributors announced that all shipments for this week that involve airlines have been delayed. This includes shipments to Hawaii, Alaska, and all International accounts. Marvel 'First Look' packages have also been slowed. These packages are normally delivered on Thursday. Diamond will try to have them delivered on Friday, but that depends on the resumption of normal air traffic, which may not occur at noon on Wednesday as promised.
